Gift for my dad: is a new battery installed at his office a good idea?
My dad turns sixty next week, and I am stuck on what to get him. He drives an old Mitsubishi Pajero to his office in DIFC every day, and he never complains, but I know the battery is original and close to five years old. Last month he told my mum the car “took a moment” to start, and she told me quietly, because he hates fuss. So I had a crazy idea. What if I arrange a new battery for him and have it fitted at his work while he is in meetings, so he does not lose any time? My sister says that is a boring gift, but I think a car that starts every morning is worth more than another shirt. I read around and found a page on Exclusive Varta 95Ah battery installation in DIFC, but every page sounded like an ad, so I would rather ask real people. Can a shop really do the job in the car park while he is busy, or do they need to take the car away? How long does it usually take? Is 95Ah the right size for a big SUV like his, and how do I check without asking him and ruining the surprise? Should I ask them to test the alternator too, so I do not buy a battery for nothing? Where do I find the date on a new one, and is one year warranty normal? Also, I want the receipt in his name, so is that easy to arrange? If you gave a battery or a car service as a gift, please tell me how it went, what you paid, and what you would do differently.
